BBQ Fest Information
To assess the potential for a new community event, Bb&T and The Dispatch have decided to employ Kay Saintsing, a manager and developer from the area. After reviewing Saintsing's findings and suggestions, the two businesses decided that October 27, 1984, would be a good day to kick off Lexington's inaugural Barbecue Festival. The festival was organized by event professional Kay Saintsing and her team at Saintsing Management Services, now Preferred Events.
The biggest event in Lexington is now planned all year round by Preferred Events. Unexpectedly, at 53, Kay Saintsing departed this world on June 7, 2002. Stephanie, who is the daughter of Kay, carried on the family tradition of organizing this major community event. Nowadays, one of the final two Saturdays in October is reserved for the festival, which has grown into an annual event.
In 2024, on Saturday, October 26, there will be the 40th Annual Barbecue Festival. Along with the celebration, Davidson County and the City of Lexington have proclaimed October as "Barbecue" month. October is filled with events that culminate in the Barbecue Festival.
