B Side Players Information
The B-Side Players are a San Diego-based band that blends sounds from Cuba, Jamaica, Mexico, and Brazil with American funk, rock, jazz, and hip-hop beats. Karlos Paez, Damian DeRobbio, Luis Cuenca, and Victor Tapia make up the group's current composition.
The B-Side Players also throw in some Cumbia, grittier street Samba, Son Montuno, and Jarocho. The musicians have broadened their sound by performing with Harper, Ozomatli, The Wailers, James Brown, War, and some of Cuba's greatest bands, and have been described as War meets Lenny Kravitz via Ben Harper. They were formed in 1994 and are signed to Concord Music Group's jazz label.
The guy behind the B-Side Players, Karlos "Solrak" Paez, grew raised in a musical household. His father, Ezequiel Paez, is a trombone player and musical arranger who spent 17 years with Los Moonlights in Tijuana and ten years with La Banda Del Recodo.
Since their formation in 1994, the B-Side Players have been putting down their unique brand of Latin global funk. With ten San Diego Music Awards, their fiery live concerts have established them as local favorites.
Renacimiento (1997), Movement (2001), Fire In The Youth (2007), Radio Afro Mexica (2009), and Revolutionize are only a few of the B-Side's albums.
