Average White Band Information
The Average White Band is a Scottish R&B and funk band. The current lineup includes Alan Gorrie, Onnie McIntyre, Fred Vigdor, Cliff Lyons, Rocky Bryant, Brent Carter, and Rob Aries. The band's big break came in 1973 when they opened for Eric Clapton at his comeback gig. Show Your Hand, their 1973 debut album by MCA Records, was not a commercial success. Former Clapton tour manager Bruce McCaskill agreed to manage the band after enjoying their music. To get them to the United States and market them, he took out a loan.
Following the release of "Warmer Communications" (1978), "Feel No Fret" (1979), "Shine" (1980), and "Cupid's In Fashion" (1982) on the American Arista label, AWB's popularity and sales began to decline. By 1983, the group had already broken up. Louise covered their 1980 disco song "Let's Go Round Again" (UK No. 12) in the late 1990s.
Rocky Bryant took over for Dunne as drummer for the 2006 tour, following Jones's 2011 departure to join Hall and Oates, Monte Croft (keyboards, bass, guitar) and Morris Pleasure (keyboards, bass, guitar), a former Earth, Wind & Fire member, filled in for brief periods before Rob Aries joined in 2013. Since 2011, AWB has featured Brent Carter, formerly of Tower of Power, on vocals. With the announcement of Let's Go Round Again One Last Time in June 2023, AWB put their farewell tour in motion.
