Autopsy Information
Autopsy is an American death metal band. The group's current lineup consists of Greg Wilkinson, Danny Coralles, Eric Cutler, and Chris Reifert. Chris Reifert and Eric Cutler founded Autopsy in August 1987, soon after Reifert departed from Death. In 1987, the band recorded a tape titled "Demo '87." In 1988, right before recording their second "Critical Madness" demo, they were joined by Danny Coralles, who, along with Reifert and Cutler, would remain a constant in the band's roster. In 1989, the band's self-titled debut album was published via Peaceville Records.
These demos showcased an early death metal style characterized by a slower tempo and a sound influenced by doom metal. Mental Funeral, the band's following full-length, carried on in the same vein and has been hailed as an inspiration by other death metal bands. After a successful European tour supporting Mental Funeral, the band returned to the studio to record the Fiend for Blood EP and their third full-length, Acts of the Unspeakable, which included shorter tracks and a more grindcore-influenced sound.
After a trying 1993 US tour, Autopsy decided to call it quits after recording their final album. After the dissolution of Autopsy, Danny Coralles and Chris Reifert formed Abscess as their main band, and their 1995 album Shitfun was largely influenced by hardcore punk.
