Ara Malikian Information
Ara Malikian (1968) is an Armenian-Spanish violinist. He was born in Beirut, Lebanon. Malikian's father is also a violinist and has played with famous Lebanese singer Fairuz, which inspired the young Malikian to take up the instrument. As early as 12, Malikian performed in public for the first time. By 14, he had received an invitation to attend the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hannover in Hannover, Germany. He was the youngest student in the school's history when he enrolled at age 15.
In his career, Malikian has performed in over 40 countries, including Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; Havana, Cuba; Barcelona, Spain; Bilbao, Spain; Los Angeles, USA; Taipei, Taiwan; Hong Kong, China; and the United States. Carnegie Hall in New York City, Paris's Salle Pleyel, Vienna's Musikverein, the Scotiabank Theatre in Toronto, Ontario, the Ford Centre in Madrid, Spain, and the Auditorio Nacional and Teatro Real in Madrid, Spain.
Malikian's relationship with José Luis Montón remains strong. The flamenco dancers Joaqun Cortés and Belén Maya, the tango ensemble Ensamble Nuevo Tango, and the jazz pianist Horacio Icasto are just a few of the artists he has collaborated with. He has also worked with cinema composers such as Alberto Iglesias, with whom he recorded the score for Almodóvar's Hable Con Ella, and Pascal Gainge, who scored Salvador Garca Ruiz's Otro Barrio.
