Anvil Information
Anvil is a Canadian heavy metal band. The group's current lineup consists of Chris Robertson, Robb Reiner, and Steve "Lips" Kudlow. Toronto high school classmates Steve "Lips" Kudlow and Robb Reiner formed the band Anvil in April 1973. Their mutual friend and neighbor, guitarist Marty Hoffman, introduced them, but "musical differences" led to Hoffman's departure after their first performance. Kudlow (lead vocals, guitar), Reiner (drums), Dave "Squirrely" Allison (rhythm guitar, backup vocals), and Ian "Dix" Dickson (bass) comprised the band's initial full lineup in 1978. The group's name at the time was Lips.
Hard 'N' Heavy was the band's self-released album from 1981. Soon after, Attic Records contracted the band, and they rebranded as Anvil. Attic published their first album, which was the band's self-released effort. After its publication, British rock singer Lemmy requested Kudlow to replace "Fast" Eddie Clarke on guitar for Motörhead, but Kudlow politely declined.
By 1983, Aerosmith's manager, David Krebs, and his assistant, Paul O'Neill, had convinced Attic to release the band from its contract so that the band could sign with a major label after signing a managing contract with Anvil. Krebs had initially been interested in signing the band to a major label, but he finally stopped responding to phone calls and let them go about mid-1986.
