Anthony Geraci Information
Anthony Geraci (1954) is an American jazz and blues composer, singer, pianist, and organist. He was born in New Haven, Connecticut. He came from a family with little musical background but knew at age four that he wanted to play the piano. After making this out-of-the-ordinary request, Geraci could purchase a used upright piano for only $20.00 and begin his musical training. Geraci's skill developed over the years, so his mother bought him a Kimball baby grand piano.
At sixteen, Geraci and a classmate heard Jimmy Rogers' recording of "Chicago Bound" (1954) while taking lessons at the Neighborhood School of Music. In addition to his undergraduate degree from Berklee, Geraci holds a Master of Arts in jazz studies from Skidmore College. Gerachi moved to Boston, Massachusetts, in the early 1970s and immediately dove into the city's thriving blues and jazz communities.
Geraci was the warmup act for a week of Muddy Waters shows in the early '70s. When Jerry Portnoy and Bob Margolin weren't on the road with Muddy Waters, he started playing with them. That's how he met Michael "Mudcat" Ward and Ronnie Earl, who invited him to play in Boston and Providence together. The original Sugar Ray & the Bluetones lineup was completed when drummer Neil Gouvin invited Sugar Ray Norcia to one of their shows.
