Anne Sofie von Otter (May 9, 1955) is a mezzo-soprano from Stockholm, Sweden. Her repertoire encompasses oratorios, lieder, operas, along with rock and pop songs. She grew up in Bonn, London, as well as Stockholm and studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London and Stockholm with Vera Rozsa as her teacher. In 1983, she made her professional operatic début at the Basel Opera as Alcina in Haydn's Orlando Paladino. In 1985, she partook at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, while, in 1987, she made her La Scala debut. Her Metropolitan Opera début was as Cherubino in The Marriage of Figaro, December 1988.
Anne Sofie von Otter's recordings of Grieg songs won her the 1993 Gramophone Record of the Year. In 2001, her album entitled For the Stars was released with Elvis Costello, which earned her an Edison Award. Douce France was another album by her that contained French songs. In 2015, she won a Grammy Award for Best Classical Vocal Solo for this album. Otter is a regular recital and recording partner with pianist Bengt Forsbergof Sweden.
In 2000, Otter sang the Evangelist in the premiere of Sven-David Sandström's Ordet – en passion. Her other works include singing the role of The Woman in Senza Sangue of Péter Eötvös. She was also sighted in the film A Late Quartet.
Some of her other studio albums include Speak Low, Home for Christmas, For the Stars, I Let the Music Speak, Terezín / Theresienstadt, and Ombre de mon amant.
