Anat Cohen Information
Anat Cohen is an Israeli-American jazz clarinetist, bandleader, and saxophonist currently based in New York City. She was born in Tel Aviv and began to play saxophone and clarinet early. In 1996, Cohen went to study at the Berklee College of Music. She also performed many recordings with her brothers Yuval Cohen (soprano saxophonist and alto) and Avishai Cohen (trumpeter). She released her debut album entitled “Place & Time” in 2005 on Anzic Records. The album featured Avishai Cohen, Jeff Ballard, Ben Street, and Jason Lindner. In 2017, she released another record on Anzic Records named Happy Song.
Cohen regularly performs and appears at several notable jazz festivals, including the North Sea Jazz Festival, Tudo E Jazz Festival, Montreal International Jazz Festival, and the Newport Jazz Festival. She has released many albums as a leader, including Poetica, Notes From the Village, Clarinetwork: Live at the Village Vanguard, Claroscuro, and Luminosa.
Cohen won the 2007 “Up and Coming Artist” and “Clarinetist of the Year” from the Jazz Journalists Association. She earned the 2013 Paul Acket Award from the North Sea Jazz Festival in Rotterdam from the BNP Foundation on July 12, 2013. She was nominated for two Grammy Awards on November 27, 2017, for “Rosa Dos Ventos” and “Outra Coisa: The Music Of Moacir Santos.” In 2019, Cohen was nominated for the Grammy Award for “Triple Helix” in the “Best Large Jazz Ensemble Album” category.
