Ana Torroja Information
Ana Torroja (December 28, 1959) is a Spanish singer born in Madrid, Spain. She became the official Marquesa de Torroja after her father passed away in 2021. While in school for economics, Ana Torroja crossed paths with José Mara Cano. Eventually, José Mara introduced her to his younger brother, Nacho, and the two became fast friends. After seeing Ana perform José Mara's guitar pieces, Nacho recommended forming a band. She joined Mecano as their lead singer in 1981 at the tender age of 22.
The band's success in Europe and Latin America led to seven studio albums, but the relentless touring eventually took its toll. Ana was particularly affected and began having trouble with her voice. The band went on indefinite hiatus in 1993. Ana went on a globe tour while José and Nacho each put out solo albums, making stops in Hawaii, Mumbai, and New York City, all of which she had sung about in her Mecano days. She ultimately landed in New York City, where she began taking dance lessons.
Pasajes de un Sueo (Passages of a Dream) was released in 1999 and became Ana's most successful solo effort. After that, she collaborated with Mexican musician Armando Manzanero to record the song "Nada personal" (which translates to "Nothing personal") for his album Duetos 2.
