Amorphis Information
Amorphis is a Finnish based heavy metal band that was founded in 1990 by Esa Holopainen, Tomi Koivusaari, and Jan Rechberger. The band was first formed as a death metal band, and the members named it “Abhorrence.” After they had to go through the splitting in the band, the group put more time into Amorphis, which was Koivusaari’s other band. They recorded the demo tape in 1991 entitled “Disment of Soul” at TTT studios. Time Tolkki did the recording. The tape was named Dismemberment of Soul, but they forgot the word member, so it was named as Disment of Soul.
Amorphis signed a worldwide recording deal with Relapse Records. After signing to this record deal, the band released its debut metal album entitled “The Karelian Isthmus” and an EP “Privilege of Evil.” Their second studio album was released in 1994, Tales from the Thousand Lakes. It was a concept album of the Finnish national epic called “the Kalevala.” Their third release was another studio album named Elegy, in 1996.
Later, in 1999, Amorphis released a mellow guitar album, Tuonela. Their fifth studio album was Am Universum, released in 2001. They contributed to the movie Menolippu Mombasaan where they recorded a soundtrack in 2002. The band struggled with their line-up. Their album Circle won the “Album of the Year” award by Metal Hammer on September 16, 2013.
The band kept releasing their latest studio albums including Far from the Sun (2003), Eclipse (2006), Silent Waters (2007), Skyforger (2009), The Beginning of Times (2011), Circle (2013), Under the Red Cloud (2015), and Queen of Time (2018).
