Amon Amarth Information
Amon Amarth is a Swedish melodic death metal band. The current lineup comprises Olavi Mikkonen, Johan Hegg, Ted Lundström, Johan Söderberg, and Jocke Wallgren. Former members of the band Scum, including vocalist Paul "Themgoroth" Mäkitalo (Dark Funeral), guitarist Olavi Mikkonen, bassist Petri Tarvainen, and rhythm guitarist Vesa Meriläinen, formed the band in 1988. Their first album, Once Sent from the Golden Hall, was released after they signed with Metal Blade Records.
In celebration of the 20th anniversary of their third album, The Crusher, the band unveiled a re-recorded rendition of the song "Masters of War" on May 28, 2021. Put Your Back Into the Oar was the band's first solo single, released on February 16, 2022. In June of 2022, Amon Amarth revealed that The Great Heathen Army would be the title of their twelfth studio album. For the first time since their debut album, the band members are front and center on the cover of this record. Concurrent with the album's introduction, a music video for "Get in the Ring" featuring AEW wrestler Erick Redbeard was released.
August 5, 2022, was the release date of the album. Amon Amarth and Machine Head performed live on the Vikings and Lionhearts Tour 2022, which took place throughout Europe in September and October of that year. In November and December of 2022, Amon Amarth was the headlining act on the Great Heathen Tour of North America, featuring Carcass, Obituary, and Cattle Decapitation.
