Allison Moorer Information
Allison Moorer (June 21, 1972) is an American musician, singer, and songwriter from Mobile, Alabama. Her music is classified as rock, folk, roots-pop, country folk, folk-rock, alt-country, and Americana. Moorer grew up in Frankville, Alabama, and later Monroeville, Alabama. She attended the University of South Alabama in Mobile and eventually relocated to Nashville, Tennessee. Moorer started her career by singing backgrounds and touring in her sister Shelby Lynne’s band.
In 1997, Moorer signed a record deal with MCA Nashville and made her debut on the U.S Billboard Country chart. She released her debut single entitled “A Soft Place to Fall,” featured in Robert Redford’s The Horse Whisperer. The song also earned an Academy Award nomination for the Best Original Song in 1999. In the same year, Moorer performed at the Oscars ceremony. Alabama Song was the first studio album by Moorer that came out on September 22, 1998. The Hardest Part followed it on September 26, 2000; Miss Fortune on August 6, 2002; The Duel on April 13, 2004; and Getting Somewhere on June 13, 2006.
Moorer has released ten albums so far and has had singles recorded by Kenny Chesney, Miranda Lambert, Trisha Yearwood, Steve Earle, and Hayes Carll. “Show” is the only live album by Moorer that came out on June 24, 2003, via Universal South label. The two of her compilation albums are The Definitive Collection 2005 and The Ultimate Collection 2008. Moorer was nominated two times for Americana Music Honors & Awards and once for a Grammy and Academy Award.
