Alicia Olatuja Information
Alicia Olatuja is an American singer, voice teacher, vocal producer, and teaching artist from St. Louis, Missouri. She grew up immersed in a wide range of musical styles, which include jazz, soul, gospel, and classical. Alicia Olatuja graduated with a Master’s degree from the Manhattan School of Music in Classical Voice/Opera. She appeared in several operatic and musical theatre productions, and, later on, Alicia started to perform consistently in gospel and jazz concerts working with esteemed artists, including BeBe Winans, Chaka Khan, and Christian McBride.
Alicia grabbed the attention of the acclaimed pianist, arranger, and composer, Billy Childs, in 2014. She was brought on to be part of the touring of “Map to the Treasure: Reimagining Laura Nyro,” where Alicia worked beside vocalist Becca Stevens. Her voice also successfully attracted the legendary Hammond B3 organist Dr. Lonnie Smith. He invited her to join his band on multiple concerts, including the BRIC JazzFest, Montreal Jazz Festival, the Charlie Parker Festival, and many others.
Alicia is also one of three featured vocalists on the Jazz at Lincoln Center who have commissioned the project Songs of Freedom. They joined Theo Bleckmann and Dee Bridgwater with music director Ulysses Owens Jr. to explore the works of Nina Simone, Joni Mitchell, and Abbey Lincoln.
Alicia also leads a band that has been increasing in demand. The group has performed at the Newport Jazz Festival, Vermont Jazz Center, SFJAZZ Center, Rockport Jazz Festival, Monterey Jazz Festival, Jazz at Lincoln Center, and the Jazz Standard.
