The Addams Family is a musical comedy that presents the ghastly family in a Tony-nominated production based on the legendary characters created by Charles Adams. Originally starting a test run in Chicago in 2009, the play soon traveled to Broadway and opened at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre in March 2010. With music and lyrics by Andrew Lippa, the performance has a book by Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice.
Beginning a nationwide tour in September 2011 and running on Broadway until its last performance on New Year's Eve that year, the show was described as "comic perfection" by the Chicago Sun-Times. An upgraded version of the performance arrived again in Chicago in 2015 and drew great reviews. The performance has seen several foreign productions, from the Teatro Opera in Bueno Aires to the Meralco Theater in the Philippines.
Original Broadway cast members featured theater greats Nathan Lane, Bebe Neuwirth, Kevin Chamberlin, and Jackie Hoffman. Based on his performance of Uncle Fester, Chamberlin would be nominated for Tony for Best Performance by a Featured Actor in a Musical. Among the many recognized faces that have graced the show are Brooke Shields and Roger Rees.
