Rock of Ages Information
Rock of Ages is a jukebox musical built around classic rock songs taken from the 1980s, with many of the songs having been taken from the famous glam metal bands from the decade. The musical was written by Chris D'Arienzo, choreographed by Kelly Devine, and directed by Kristin Hanggi. Ethan Popp made the music supervision, arrangements, and orchestrations.
During the Rock of Ages performances, the performers frequently break the "fourth wall" to address the audience and "forget" that they are actors in a musical. Despite the name of the musical, the Def Leppard song of the same name is not included in Rock of Ages. The musical's original Broadway production ran for 2,328 performances closing on January 18, 2015, which made the musical the 29th-longest-running show in Broadway history.
Since the debut of the Rock of Ages on the Great White Way, the musical has successfully spawned replica productions worldwide, such as in the UK, Japan, and Australia. In addition to this, the musical has performed several touring productions such as 2005 Los Angeles, 2010 Toronto, 2010 US Tour, 2011 West End, 2015 Ciudad de México, 2018 Lima, 2019 Akranes, 2019 Hollywood, and 2020 Weston.
Some of the notable musical numbers added to act I of Rock of Ages are "Sister Christian," "I Wanna Rock," "More Than Words/To Be with You/Heaven," and a few more. In act II, some numbers include "High Enough," "Can't Fight This Feeling," and "Keep On Loving You." Rock of Ages won the Theatre World Award in 2009 and has received numerous nominations.
