Using Britney Spears-popularized lyrics, Once Upon a One More Time is a jukebox musical comedy. The plot follows several fairytale characters changed by a feminist awakening in a fantastical fairytale world.
Cinderella begs for a fresh narrative while attending a reading group for princesses from fairy tales. She gets her to wish from a fairy godmother who introduces The Feminine Mystique to the magical kingdom. The book empowers the Little Mermaid, Sleeping Beauty, Rapunzel, and other group members to adopt a fresh perspective on themselves as they come to understand that there are other ways to find "happily ever after" besides waiting to be saved or kissed by a prince.
A musical based on Britney Spears' songs was announced to develop in May 2017. On May 24, 2018, it was revealed that Britney had gone to the first reading of the musical that featured her songs and that she had performed "very well." The musical "Once Upon A One More Time" will make its Chicago debut in the fall at the James M. Nederlander Theatre before moving on to Broadway, according to an official announcement made in March 2019 by theatre owner James L. Nederlander.
