Mean Girls is a musical based on the movie written by Tina Fey. The music is composed by Jeff Richmond, and Nell Benjamin writes the lyrics. It is based on the Fey-written 2004 movie of the same name. That film was based on Rosalind Wiseman's book Queen Bees and Wannabes, published in 2002.
The musical debuted in October 2017 at the National Theatre in Washington, District of Columbia. It then moved to Broadway and began previews at the August Wilson Theatre on March 12, 2018. The show had its official opening on April 8, 2018. Casey Nicholaw served as both the show's director and its choreographer. Lorne Michaels and Stuart Thompson are the ones responsible for producing the musical.
Mean Girls features the costume design work of Gregg Barnes, the scenic design work of Scott Pask, and the video design work of Finn Ross and Adam Young—moreover, the lighting design work of Kenneth Posner and the sound design work of Brian Ronan. On January 23, 2020, it was reported that the Broadway show had reached the point where it had recouped its initial investment.
