Disneys Mary Poppins - Musical Information
The Sherman Brothers—Richard M. and Robert B. Sherman—created the music and lyrics for the musical Mary Poppins. George Stiles and Anthony Drewe contributed additional music and lyrics, while Julian Fellowes wrote the book. The musical combines several aspects from the 1964 Disney film Mary Poppins and the children's books written by P. L. Travers with the same title. It has songs from the film.
Opening night was October 18, 2008, and the first run of the first performance in a language other than Swedish was March 14, 2009, at the Gothenburg Opera House. Disney Theatrical brought together the Swedish cast and crew for this performance, which was adapted from a book by Magnus Lindman. Magnus Borén played Bert, and Linda Olsson played Mary under the direction of musical director Björn Dobbelaere.
As of March 16, 2020, the show briefly had to close due to the epidemic. The Prince Edward Theatre reopened on August 7, 2021, with most of the original cast returning. While Charlie Stemp performed in the revival of Crazy For You at the Chichester Festival Theatre on June 22, 2022, Louis Gaunt filled in for him. January 8, 2023, was the last night the show was performed on the West End.
