Company - The Musical Information
The Company, a hit band from Brooklyn, features three talented songwriters and a powerful drummer. They play songs with roots in folk and country but with the intensity of punk and psychedelic rock. The members of the Company all attended Bard College and worked together in various punk bands and folk ensembles before forming the Company. They founded the band in 2001 after relocating to Brooklyn to fuse their diverse musical influences. They started rewriting their originally acoustic-based compositions with improvised parts and post-punk dynamics.
The Company built a tiny but devoted fan base via years of continuous performances at local venues, including Pete's Candy Store in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, and the now-defunct Nine-C Lounge in Manhattan's East Village. During this time, they recorded a live CD from an early Nine-C concert and two studio albums that have yet to be released. Hills, their third LP, was independently released by the band in 2004 and recorded by Will Dyar, who had previously played drums for Oakley Hall.
Kid Millions of Oneida made their second CD for Brah, Old Baby, which came out in February 2008. The band Company frequently played shows in the 2000s alongside Nine-C alums Oakley Hall, Oneida, Home, and Dirty Faces, all on the same record label.
On February 27, 2014, an episode of The Vampire Diaries titled "No Exit" featured the band's self-released single "Poisonous Spider." In August 2014, the Company released its debut album on Papasan Recordings.
