The Ranch Rodeo is a traditional American rodeo where teams of cowboys and cowgirls visit from different ranches and compete against one another. The event is based on the type of work they may do on a regular basis. The Ranch Rodeo event is different from the other common PRCA-style rodeos in many ways. For one, the contestants are not the professional rodeo cowboys. They are the full-time ranch hands who usually compete in annual ranch rodeos just for bragging rights and fun.

The track and equipment used in the Ranch Rodeo are nearly the same as those used during ranch work every day. There is no competition between any individual cowboy or cowgirl; instead, every contestant is part of a team. The top awards for the event go to the individuals such as “Top Horse” and “Top Hand.”

However, the mega prize presented by the Ranch Rodeo is for the overall top ranch team. The sanctioning bodies are also involved in the event such as Western States Ranch Rodeo Association, which sponsors the WSRRA National Finals in Winnemucca, Nevada, and the Working Ranch Cowboys Association that sponsors the World Championship Ranch Rodeo in Amarillo, Texas.
