Yumi Zouma Information
Yumi Zouma is a New Zealand alternative pop band. The current lineup of the group consists of Olivia Campion (drums), Charlie Ryder (samplers, drum programming, synthesizers, keyboards, bass guitar, and guitar), Josh Burgess (samplers, drum programming, synthesizers, keyboards, bass guitar, guitar, and vocals), and Christie Simpson (lead vocals, keyboards, and samplers). The band's name is a combination of the names of two friends who pushed the group to begin writing together.
The group started by performing together in Christchurch performances. However, the band did not begin producing music together until after the Christchurch earthquake, when several members went abroad and began collaborating via email. This early piece caught the attention of the musical blogosphere, prompting Cascine, an American label, to sign the band before they had even performed live or had a band session.
The group issued two extended plays between 2014 and 2015. (EP I, EP II). Yoncalla, the band's debut album, was released in 2016, and it featured the singles "Keep It Close To Me" and "Barricade (Matter Of Fact)." Willowbank, the band's second album, was released in 2017, along with the tracks "December," "Depths (Pt. I), and "Half Hour." The tracks "In Camera" and "Crush (It's Late Just Stay)" was included on EP III, which was released in 2018. The band signed to Polyvinyl Record Co. and Inertia Music in 2020 and released Truth or Consequences, their third album, which included the hits "Right Track / Wrong Man," "Cool For A Second," "Southwark," "Lonely After," and "Sage."
