Young Thug (August 16, 1991) is an American songwriter, rapper, and singer. His original name is Jeffery Lamar Williams. Thug is known for his eccentric vocal style and fashion. He got the popularity for his collaborations with the rappers Gucci Mane, Rich Homie Quan, and Birdman. He was born in Atlanta. In one of his interviews, Thug told that he was expelled in the sixth grade because he broke the arm of his teacher and was sent to prison in juvenile for four years.
In 2010, Young Thug started his musical career officially. He got the attention of his fellow rapper Gucci Mane after releasing three installments of his mixtape entitled “I Came From Nothing.” Gucci went on to sign him under his label 1017 Brick Squad Record in 2013. With the label, Thug released his fourth and first mixtape under the label titled “Thug 1017”.
In July 2013, Complex added Young Thug to the list of 25 New Rappers to Watch Out For. He released his commercial debut single “Stoner” in October 2013.
Young Thug has released several albums throughout his career including Barter 6 (2015), I’m Up (2016), Slime Season 3 (2016), Jeffery (2016), Beautiful Thugger Girls (2017), Supper Slimey and Future (2017), and So Much Fun (2019).
Thug has won many awards for his great work and also got nominated several times in his musical career. Some of the notable awards he has won are MTV Video Music Award for the category of “Best Editing” for his work “Wyclef Jean” in 2017. “Wyclef Jean” won three more awards in UK Music Video Awards for the categories “Video of the Year,” “Best Urban Video,” and “Best Editing in a Video.”
