Yngwie Johan Malmsteen (June 30, 1963) is a Swedish guitarist. His neo-classical heavy metal playing style pushed him to fame in the 1980s, and he has since recorded 22 studio albums throughout his 40-year career. Malmsteen was ranked ninth on Time magazine's list of the top ten electric guitar guitarists of all time in August 2009.
Varney brought Malmsteen to the U.S. to play guitar for the 1983 self-titled album by Shrapnel recording artist Steeler. Along with Graham Bonnet, he formed the band Alcatrazz. With Jethro Tull drummer Barrie Barlow and keyboardist Jens Johansson on Rising Force, Malmsteen's debut solo album came out in 1984. Rising Force peaked at No. 60 on Billboard's album chart and received the Guitar Player's Award for Best Rock Album.
In a groundbreaking move, Yngwie Malmsteen unveiled TrueFire's inaugural interactive video guitar masterclass on July 17, 2023. The masterclass and Yngwie's demonstration of his creative process, technical abilities, and performance insights are structured around a selection of backing tracks taken from ten of his most successful songs. The release date was July 31, 2023.
