Weval Information
Harm Coolen (born in 1986) and Merijn Scholte Albers (born in 1987) are Dutch friends who worked together on a Weval project. (b. 1989). In 2010, Harm and Merijn were working their way up in the film business when they first crossed paths.
While trip-hop is Merijn's primary musical inspiration, house and jazz are two of Harm's. For their debut EP, "Half Age," published in March 2013 on Atomnation, the two merged their disparate musical experiences to create a fresh new sound. The first performance was at Pitch Festival 2013, and subsequent performances came shortly after.
Weval had an excellent first few months of 2014. The Half Age EP's "Detian" was used in a Penelope Cruz-starring ad for Schweppes. By the end of the week, Detian had climbed to #5 on the French iTunes Electronica chart. After two months, their remix of Gui Boratto's new song "Take Control" reached #1 on Beatport's Electronica Top 100. The duo is working hard on a new EP for the prestigious Kompakt record company.
