We3 Information
We3 is a three-issue American comic book mini-series. It was written by artist Frank Quitely and writer Grant Morrison. Quitely describes the kinetic style of the mini-series as “Western Manga.” The comic book was published in 2004 by the Vertigo imprint of DC Comics. The trade paperback of We3 was released in 2005. The plot of the We3 includes a squad of three prototype “animal weapons” who are part of a government project. The group included a dog “Bandit” a.k.a “1”, a rabbit “Pirate” a.k.a “3”, and a cat “Tinker” a.k.a “2”. All of them were kidnapped from a nearby city, and they are encased in robotic armor.
The project was headed by Dr. Rosanne Berry and her superior, Doctor Trendle. An American film production studio, New Line Cinema, optioned We3 as a film project in 2006. The script was completed in the same year, whereas Rick Benattar, Susan Montford, and Don Murphy were the attached producers.
John Stevenson (director of Kung Fu Panda) joined the mega project as a director on December 9, 2008. James Gunn also expressed his interest in We3 during an impromptu Facebook Q&A on March 7, 2015.
