Wayne Krantz Information
Wayne Krantz is an American composer and guitarist. He was born in Corvallis, Oregon. He has collaborated with several notable musicians, including those Steely Dan, Michael Brecker, Donald Fagen, Billy Cobham, Chris Potter, David Binney, and Carla Bley. Krantz has been predominantly a trio leader since the early 1990s when he began focusing on his solo career.
He was exposed to jazz via his father's music collection, despite his preference for playing in country and rock bands. He toured with Carla Bley and played in a band with Bill Frisell. Signals, his first solo album, was released in 1991. He first collaborated with Lincoln Goines and Zach Danziger and later added Tim Lefebvre and Keith Carlock to the mix. Besides Steely Dan and Billy Cobham, he has collaborated with Michael Brecker and Chris Potter.
Krantz's first studio album in nearly fifteen years, Krantz Carlock Lefebvre (2009), was recorded as a trio with Lefebvre and Carlock and was released by the record company Abstract Logix. Krantz featured John Patitucci, Charley Drayton, Tal Wilkenfeld, Vinnie Colaiuta, Anton Fig, Jeremy Stacey, Paul Stacey, Pino Palladino, Gabriela Anders, Kenny Wollesen, Nate Wood, Henry Hey, Owen Biddle on his 2012 album Howie 61 (a nod to Bob Dylan's Highway 61 Revisited).
