Wardruna Information
Wardruna is a Norwegian music group that was formed by Einar Selvik along with Lindy Fay Hella and Gaahl in 2003. The group is well-known for its music renditions of esoteric traditions and Norse culture. They used Nordic historical and traditional instruments in a significant way. The instruments include kraviklyr, flutes, primitive deer-hide frame drums, goat horn, mouth harp, and tagelharpe. They also used non-instrumental sources of sound, such as water, torches, trees, and rocks.
Wardruna released its first three albums based on Norse mythology. The fourth album was based on Odin’s sayings from the Voluspa as well as the other old Norse sources. Gaahl and Selvik were together as well in the album named Twilight of the Idols. They also worked together on the DVD entitled “Black Mass Krakow 2004”.
On January 19, 2009, Wardruna released its debut album “Runaljod - Gap Var Ginnunga” under Indie Recordings. The group released its following album “Runaljod - Yggdrasil” on March 15, 2013. Selvik took part in composing the score along with Trevor Morris for Vikings’ season 2, and later on, he also appeared as an actor on the show. The show played an important role in making the group’s third album “Runaljod - Ragnarok” that was released on October 21, 2016. The album peaked at number 1 on the World Albums chart of the Billboard.
Wardruna has also headlined the Menuo Juodaragis, 20th folk, experimental music, and alternative music festival held in Duburys Lake, Lithuania. On November 23, 2018, the band released its fourth album called “Skald.”
