Voodoo Visionary Information
Voodoo Visionary is an American improvisational funk dance music band. It hailed from Atlanta, Georgia Dirty South musical hub, blends a tight, grooving rhythm section with soulful organ, funky clavinet, singing synths, brilliant guitar riffs, and passionate vocals to produce a style the group calls psycho funk. Voodoo Visionary’s music is influenced by various bands, from Grateful Dead and the Meters to Parliament-Funkadelic and Herbie Hancock to Miles Davis and Allman Brothers Band.
Since 2013, the band has gone through multiple lineup changes, each reflecting a different stage of its growth and development. Austin Cobb (vocals), Dennis Dowd (keyboards), Trent Gilson (bass), Jose Rivera (percussion), Mac Schmitz (drums), and Mike Wilson make up the current lineup (guitar). These musicians have formed unique chemistry during live performances to perform for remarkable improvisation.
Spirit of the Groove, Voodoo Visionary’s debut album, was released in March 2015, and Off The Ground, their sophomore album, was published in February 2017.
Over the last few years, the band has directly supported Col. Bruce Hampton, Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe featuring Jimmy Herring, TAUK, DJ Logic, The Main Squeeze, Futurebirds, Fruition, and many more while touring around the country.
