Virgin Festival Information
The Virgin Festival, which is also known as the Virgin Mobile FreeFest, is a rock festival that is held in the United States and Canada. Virgin Mobile sponsors the festival. Chief of the Virgin Group “Richard Branson” announced the inaugural shows for the festival on June 30, 2006. The first show of the festival took place on September 9 and 10, 2006, featuring over 40 artists at Toronto Islands Park, Toronto, Ontario. A single-day show of the festival has been held in Baltimore, Maryland, at the Pimlico Race Course, featuring The Who and Red Hot Chili Peppers. It was held on September 23, 2006.
The year 2007 was the year that brought back the Virgin Festival to Vancouver on May 20 and 21. It was also the return of the festival to its old venue named Pimlico Race Track. On August 4th and 5th, the festival was announced to be held in Baltimore for a two-days expanded event. It was then announced to take place in Calgary, Alberta, on June 21, and 22, 2008.
In 2007, Daryl Hannah encouraged Richard Branson to Green the Baltimore festival. They decided to bring in zero waste producers, “The Spitfire Agency.” On August 30, 2009, The Virgin Mobile FREEFEST took place at the Merriweather Post Pavilion. For this season, the admissions for the festival kept free of cost for all the goers. Instead, they set the $5 donation that would go to youth homelessness.
