Uncle Kracker Information
Matthew Shafer is an American songwriter and singer who is known by his stage name “Uncle Kracker.” Born in Mount Clemens, Michigan, Shafer attended L’Anse Creuse High School. As a musician, Uncle Kracker is known for his country and rock music. At a young age, he once visited a nightclub with his brother in Clawson, Michigan, where a turntables competition was going on. Shafer soon became friends with Kid Rock, and at the time, he was mainly involved with rap. He was asked by Kid Rock to play turntables for his band called Twisted Brown Trucker.
Uncle Kracker released his first solo album entitled “Double Wide” on June 30, 2000. The album peaked at number 7 on the Billboard 200 album chart. The album is also recognized as Shafer’s highest selling and the most successful album to date. Michael Bradford mixed the additional production while Kid Rock was the leading producer of Double Wide. Throughout his career, Shafer had worked with a few record labels, including Atlantic Records, Lava Records, EMI Records, and Sugar Hill. Two of his singles, including “Drift Away” and “Follow Me,” were the top 10 hits on the Billboard Hot 100.
Uncle Kracker has released a few hit studio albums throughout his career including No Stranger to Shame (August 27, 2002), Seventy Two and Sunny (June 29, 2004), Happy Hour (September 15, 2009), and Midnight Special (November 16, 2012). His only compilation album was “An Introduction to Uncle Kracker,” that he released in 2018.
