Umphreys McGee Information
Umphrey’s McGee is a South Bend, Indiana-based American jam band. The current lineup of the group consists of Kris Myers (drums and vocals), Jake Cinninger (guitar and vocals), Andy Farag (percussion), Ryan Stasik (bass guitar), Joel Cummins (keyboards and vocals), and Brendan Bayliss (guitar and vocals). Folk, electronic, reggae, blues, jazz, funk, metal, and rock are among the musical styles explored by the band. They’ve done a lot of touring and published a lot of albums.
Greatest Hits Vol. 1 was published by Umphrey’s McGee as their debut album. In mid-1998, after eight months of rehearsals. Having a studio disc out helped them to schedule live shows more easily. They began performing at universities and house parties outside the area, allowing listeners to freely tape and share their songs. Songs for Older Women, the band’s debut live CD, was released in 1998. Karl Engelmann wrote several songs, Ali Baba’s Tahini frontman was also adopted by the band.
Umphrey’s McGee started doing hard improvisational workouts in 2001. The band named its onstage improvisational excursions “Jimmy Stewarts” after one of their earliest productive sessions in a hotel’s “Jimmy Stewart Ballroom.”
Local Band Does OK, the band’s first real recording, was released in June 2002. That July, they were among over 30 bands performing in front of almost 100,000 people at the inaugural annual Bonnaroo Music Festival in rural Manchester, Tennessee. Since 2011, Umphrey’s Mcgee has released an annual CD called Hall of Fame, featuring fan-voted greatest songs from previous year’s live concerts. You Walked Up Shaking In Your Boots But You Stood Tall And Left A Raging Bull (2021), It’s You (2018), It’s Not Us (2018), and others are among the band’s studio albums.
