Tucson Hip Hop Festival Information
The Tucson Hip Hop Festival is held annually to honor and promote hip-hop's contributions to the arts, culture, and music of Tucson. Graffiti painting, dancing, DJing, and rapping are the four pillars of hip-hop that the Festival was designed to celebrate and highlight. The Festival also features top-notch performers from neighboring cities and even the country. UA's College of Humanities and Africana Studies are partners in this year's Festival.
When it began in 2015, the Tucson Hip Hop Festival was known as the Tucson Hip Hop Summit. The two-day Summit featured performances by sixty artists and took place at the Scratch Shack, a popular Tucson Hip Hop venue. Over a thousand people showed up to the first-ever Tucson Hip Hop Festival on February 25, 2017, which featured Murs as the opening night headliner.
Nicholas Neil Carter, better known as Murs, was born on March 16, 1979, in Los Angeles, California. He's released several solo albums and was a part of the rap group Living Legends. There were also performances by local musicians YNot and Jabee at the opening night party.
