Trouble Funk Information
Trouble Funk is an American funk and R&B band. The band was instrumental in spreading funk and its offshoot go-go throughout the greater Washington, DC, area. Popular tracks by the group include "Hey, Fellas," which has become a go-go anthem. Aside from Trouble Funk: Straight Up Go-Go Style and Saturday Night Live, they have released the studio albums Drop the Bomb, In Times of Trouble, Live, and Trouble Over Here Trouble Over There (U.K. No. 54).
Their 1982 single "So Early in the Morning" was first released on D.E.T.T. Records and has since been reissued by other labels such as 2.13.61 and Tuff City. Hardcore punk bands of the day, like Minor Threat and the Big Boys, were frequent tour mates of Trouble Funks. Many musicians have sampled Trouble Funk's "Pump Me Up," including Public Enemy's "Fight the Power," Kurtis Blow's "If I Ruled the World," M. A.R.R.S. "Pump Up the Volume," and Dimples D.'s "Sucker D.J.," which topped the Australian singles chart.
The movie Style Wars and the fictional old-school hip-hop radio station Wildstyle in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City play versions of this song. Live performances of Trouble Funk can still be seen regularly in the Washington, DC region.
