Toronzo Cannon Information
Toronzo Cannon (February 14, 1968) is an American electric blues vocalist, songwriter, and guitarist. He was born in Chicago, Illinois. At age 22, Cannon made his first guitar purchase. First, he did some reggae and switched to the blues. He lists Albert Collins, B.B. King, Freddie King, Buddy Guy, and Jimi Hendrix as some of his primary musical inspirations. Starting in 1996, Cannon collaborated on guitar with Tommy McCracken, Wayne Baker Brooks, L.V. Banks, and Joanna Connor. In 2001, he formed a group called The Cannonball Express.
He has three albums: My Woman, Leaving Mood, and John the Conqueror Root. Nominated for 2013's Rock Blues Album of the Year at the Blues Music Awards, the third studio album is a strong contender. At the end of 2015, he inked a contract with Alligator Records. Cannon and Alligator Records president Bruce Iglauer collaborated on his first album, The Chicago Way, which was released on February 26, 2016.
Cannon spends his days as a bus driver for the Chicago Transit Authority and his nights, weekends, and vacations as a performer. Cannon has made nine appearances at the Chicago Blues Festival. In 2015, he was the show's main attraction. He's also done shows in various European and American locales. Some of his many international performances include those in Mexico (2010) and South Africa (2011).
