The Zombies Information
The Zombies is an English rock band that was formed in St. Albans in 1960. The current line up the group consists of Rod Argent (keyboards, backing vocals, and lead vocals), Colin Blunstone (lead and backing vocals), Steve Rodford (drums and percussion), Tom Toomey (guitars and backing vocals), and Seren Koch (bass guitar and backing vocals). The band started when three members, Hugh Grundy, Paul Atkinson, and Rod Argent, came together to jam in St. Albans, Hertfordshire. Argent wanted to form a band, so he initially asked his older cousin, Jim Rodford, to join them as a bassist. The band’s original name was Mustangs, but they soon changed it after realizing there were already so many groups with the name.
In 1964, The Zombies released their first hit entitled “She’s Not There.” The single peaked at number 12 in the United Kingdom and became the band’s only UK Top 40 hit. The tune also began to catch on in the United States, and in early December, the single climbed to number 2. The band sold over 2 million copies, and the RIAA awarded them a gold disc.
The Zombies released its debut studio album in the United Kingdom in 1965 entitled “Begin Here.” The same year, they released their debut album in the United States and entitled “The Zombies.” Other studio albums by the band include Odessey and Oracle (1968), The Return of the Zombies (UK/1990) / New World (US/1991), and RIP (2000).
