The Waterboys Information
The Waterboys is a British-Irish folk rock band. The group's current lineup consists of James Hallawell, Eamon Ferris, Aongus Ralston, "Brother" Paul Brown, and Mike Scott. The band broke up when Scott decided to go it alone in 1993. Since their reformation in 2000, the band has released new albums and toured extensively worldwide. One track off of their second album, A Pagan Place, is credited for coining the term "The Big Music" to describe the Waterboys' early style of music. Scott characterized this aesthetic as "a metaphor for seeing God's signature in the world."
The Waterboys embarked on their first tour shortly after the release of their debut. In February of 1984, they debuted at the Batschkapp Club in Frankfurt. There was also Anthony Thistlethwaite, Wallinger, Roddy Lorimer, Martyn Swain, Kevin Wilkinson, and Mike Scott. Scottish vocalist Eddi Reader provided backing vocals for the first two shows, and guitarist John Caldwell (of Another Pretty Face) also played guitar.
In late 1983 and early 1984, the Waterboys recorded new material and re-recorded older songs to create A Pagan Place, the band's second studio album, released in June 1984. According to the sleeve of A Pagan Place, the "official" Waterboys lineup at the time consisted of Scott, Thistlethwaite, Wallinger, and Wilkinson, with guest appearances by Reader, Lorimer, and many more.
