The Naked and Famous are an indie electronic band, formed in 2007. The group is from Auckland, New Zealand, and is composed of Thom Powers (vocals, guitars) and Alisa Xayalith (vocals, keyboards). The music style of the band is defined as post-punk, indie electronic, revival, synth-pop, new wave, noise pop, and indie electronic. A few of the former members of the Naked and Famous are Ben Knapp, Jordan Clark, Aaron Short, Jesse Wood, and David Beadle. The band was formed when Thom Powers and Alisa Xayalith were working on what formed two extended plays entitled No Light and This Machine.
The official career of The Naked and Famous began with the track entitled "All of This" and "Young Blood." The second song debuted on the New Zealand chart at number one. This made them the first New Zealand artist in three years to do so. Passive Me, Aggressive You was the first official studio album by The Naked and Famous released on September 6, 2010. On December 6, 2010, the BBC made a big announcement that The Naked and Famous had been nominated for BBC's Sound of 2011 poll.
The band had performed over 200 shows in 24 countries between 2010 to 2012. On February 28, 2013, the group announced One Temporary Escape. It was a concert film recorded at The Warfield in San Francisco. This concert film was released on March 18, 2013."Hearts Like Ours" was another single by the band released on July 23, 2013. It was followed by In Rolling Waves (2013), Simple Forms (2016), and Recover (2020).
The Naked and Famous has won many awards to date, including APRA Silver Scroll 2010, New Zealand Music Awards 2011, NME 2011, and many nominations.
