The Manhattans is an American popular R&B vocal band. "For the Very First Time" was the group's 1964 first single, issued by Carnival Records. With songs composed by all band members, the Manhattans made good records. Columbia Records published two singles from The Manhattans' 1983 album Forever by Your Side. Among the album's many hits, "Crazy" reached no. 4 on the R&B charts.
Both "Kiss and Say Goodbye" (1976) and "Shining Star" (1980) were massive hits, selling millions of copies worldwide. The Manhattans have been active since 1965 and have 45 singles that have reached the Billboard R&B Chart. Twelve of their singles have been in the top ten of the US R&B charts. Sixteen songs have made it to the Billboard Hot 100, with "Kiss and Say Goodbye" reaching number one and two more reaching the top ten. Also, three of their albums were certified gold by the RIAA, and they had eight top 20 R&B singles in the US.
