The King Khan & BBQ Show Information
The King Khan & BBQ Show is a Canadian garage rock duo. The current lineup of the group consists of King Khan and BBQ. BBQ and King Khan had previously worked together in the Montreal band Spaceshits (from 1995 until 1999). King Khan (then known as Blacksnake) decided to stay in Germany during the European leg of his band's 1999 tour. After deciding to call it quits without Blacksnake, the Spaceshits broke up.
Mark Sultan formed another Montreal band in 1999 called Les Sexareenos, then went solo in 2002 as the band BBQ. Mark Sultan reconnected with Blacksnake through the band's current lineup, King Khan & the Shrines, with whom he performed as BBQ. Blacksnake's apartment in Germany was where they first started writing music together, and they performed these songs at random live events across Germany and Spain.
In 2004, as King Khan & BBQ Show, they recorded their debut album, released as "The King Khan & BBQ Show LP" in the United States by Goner Records and in Europe by Hazelwood Records. In Hamburg, Germany, DM Bob laid down the tracks for his album. The band embarked on a globe tour promoting the record, making dates in Europe, the United States, and South America. "What's for Dinner?" was the band's second album, released in 2006 on In the Red Records. King Khan was named 2008's greatest performer by Impose Magazine.
