The Jesus and Mary Chain is a Scottish alternative rock band. The current lineup consists of Jim Reid, William Reid, Scott Von Ryper, Justin Welch, and Mark Crozer. Jim and William Reid are the sole original members and ongoing members of the band, and their songwriting relationship is the band's driving force. They played crucial roles in the evolution of noise pop and shoegaze.
The band's run on the UK Singles Chart includes twelve top 40 entries and two top ten singles. Originally scheduled for March and April 2020, the band rescheduled their Darklands tour for November and December 2021. In June 2021, the band filed a lawsuit against Warner Music Group, claiming ownership of their first record, Psychocandy, and subsequent albums and seeking $2.55 million in damages.
If artists provide the current record company the required notification within 35 years, they can reclaim the rights to their recordings under Section 203 of the United States Copyright Act of 1976. Out of court, the parties settled in March 2023. "Jamcod" was the lead single from the band's eighth studio album, Glasgow Eyes, which came out on 22 March 2024 and was published on 29 November 2023.
