The Great Gatsby Musical Information
The Landless Theatre Company's latest production, The Great Gatsby Musical, features jazz standards and a varied cast of actor-musicians. This musical recreates the famous F. Scott Fitzgerald novel and the luxury and glitz of the Roaring Twenties on stage.
Gatsby centers on aspiring stockbroker Nick Carraway, a well-to-do mid-westerner who relocates to Long Island. He soon finds himself at the center of a web that links Daisy Buchanan, Nick's debutante cousin; Tom Buchanan, his brassy mistress Myrtle Wilson; and Jordan Baker, a flapper-turned-golfer, to one Jay Gatsby, Nick's lavish and enigmatic next-door neighbor. Their lives crumble more fast and more intertwined.
This world-premiere musical has a composition by international rock sensation Florence Welch (Florence + The Machine) and lyrics by Oscar and Grammy Award nominee Thomas Bartlett. With choreography by fellow Tony Award winner Sonya Tayeh (Moulin Rouge!), Rachel Chavkin directs the production of The Great Gatsby.
In collaboration with Robert Fox, Gatsby will be produced at the American Repertory Theater by way of a special agreement with Amanda Ghost and Len Blavatnik for Unigram/Access Entertainment and Jordan Roth. As a co-producer, Hannah Giannoulis is involved in this epic masterpiece.
Gatsby arrived in New York directly from the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. It was the university where this musical was workshopped and staged in April 2018. It was under the direction of UPenn faculty member and Philadelphia Magazine theater critic David Fox. The musical received a Year of Innovation Grant from the Office of the Provost.
