The Deslondes Information
The Deslondes is an Americana musical group. The group's current lineup consists of John James Tourville, Cameron Snyder, Riley Downing, Sam Doores, and Dan Cutler. The band got its name from a street in the Holy Cross section of New Orleans' Lower Ninth Ward, where they first played together. When Sam Doores was in college, he crossed paths with Cameron Snyder.
Doores dropped out of college and moved to New Orleans with his friend Snyder after reading Woody Guthrie's book Bound for Glory. The two met Missouri native Riley Downing at the Woody Guthrie Folk Festival in Oklahoma. As Snyder and John James Tourville were touring with The Longtime Goners, they met in New Orleans and formed The Tumbleweeds with Doores and Cutler. The New Orleans band Hurray for the Riff Raff, in which both Doores and Cutler participated, sometimes used The Tumbleweeds as an opening act.
After changing their name from The Tumbleweeds to The Deslondes in 2013, the band's self-titled debut album was released in 2015 to widespread praise. Their debut single, "Fought the Blues and Won," was featured on NPR. The "The Real Deal" music video premiered on Rolling Stone. During an episode of Longmire (TV Series), Season 6, Episode 3, a snippet of their song "Low Down Soul" was played.
