The 502s Information
The 502s are Ed Isola's indie folk band from Maitland, Florida. One way to describe them is that they sound like a "folk orchestra" with a touch of bluegrass, rock, and roots music. The band is known for its unique instrumental compositions incorporating banjo, piano, and horns; their sound is sometimes compared to The Avett Brothers, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes, and Old Crow Medicine Show.
"Rambunctious energy, stomping sounds... and charismatic personalities" were the qualities that Cowboys & Indians lauded regarding their live performance. From an eclectic lineup that included Ed Isola's cousins and other musicians on occasion, the band's longest-running consistent lineup now features keyboardist/guitarist Matthew Tonner, drummer Sean Froehlich, saxophonist Joe Capati, and bassist Nicholas Melashenko.
Graci Phillips joined the band in 2023, following The 502s' performance at Philadelphia's Theatre of Living Arts. "Hey, Julia" was the lead song from the band's 2022 EP Just Another, released in June of that year. New singles "Backstage in Glasgow" and "Inside Joke" from the 502s' second extended play (EP) Stories to Tell were released in 2023, just before the band's "Fresh Squeezed Happiness" tour throughout the U.S.
During that summer, the 502s performed at Lollapalooza and released their third extended play (EP), Pure Serotonin. They also announced a new album and tour for 2024.
