Thao & the Get Down Stay Down is one of the San Francisco-based alternative folk-rock music groups. The band originated from Falls Church, Virginia, and consists of Adam Thompson (vocals, bass guitar, keyboards), Thao Nguyen (vocals, guitar), Charlie Glenn (guitar, piano), Jason Slota (drums), and Johanna Kunin (piano, backing vocals). Willis Thompson, Frank Stewart, and Lisa Schonberg are three former members of the band.
Thao & the Get Down Stay Down began touring during the initial span of its career in 2005. Their first tour was the Kill Rock Stars' Sound the Hare Heard tour, held during the summer of 2006. The very first album by the band was We Brave Bee Stings and All, which was released in January 2008. In the same year, the group toured with Xiu Xiu, and separately with Rilo Kiley. Their second album was Know Better Learn Faster, released on October 13, 2009. "When We Swam" is the track by the band, which is the opening theme for Australian prime-time TV series Offspring.
Thao & the Get Down Stay Down also composed and performed the soundtrack for the 2011 film entitled; “American Teacher.” Some of the other studio albums by the band are We the Common (2013), A Man Alive (2016), Temple (2020), EP The Feeling Kind (2013), and a few more. The group also released many hit tracks, including "Bag of Hammers," "Know Better Learn Faster," "Holy Roller," ``An Astonished Man," along with some compilation tributes; "Feet Asleep," "Young Man," and the list goes on.
