Temilade Openiyi (June 11, 1995) is a Nigerian musician, composer, and record producer born in Lagos, Nigeria. Her stage name is Tems. In 2020, her breakthrough came with the release of her single "Essence" on a Wizkid album that reached No. 8 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts with the Justin Bieber remix. Her nomination for a Grammy Award came from this song. Drake, a Canadian rapper, featured her on his song "Fountains" that same year.
For Broken Ears, Tems's first extended play came out in 2020. If Orange Was a Place (2021), her second extended play, was released after she signed with RCA Records and was released with her new record. After Future sampled Tems' voice from her song "Higher" for the tune "Wait for U" (released in 2022), Drake and Tems were both recognized as featured artists on the single.
It was the second Nigerian artist to Peak at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, making her the first African artist to debut at number one. With the announcement of her Born in the Wild World Tour in 2024, Tems set the release date of her debut studio album on June 7, 2024.
