Tab Benoit Information
Tab Benoit is a blues singer, guitarist, and musician from Houma, Louisiana. He has been playing the guitar since he was a teenager. He graduated from Vanderbilt Catholic High School in May 1985. His music is defined as Swamp blues, Soul blues, and Chicago blues. While Benoit’s playing combines several blues styles, his primary one is Delta blues. He is known for playing a stock 1972 Fender Telecaster Thinline electric guitar and writing his own musical compositions.
Benoit founded an organization named "Voice of the Wetlands” in 2003. The organization was formed to promote the awareness of coastal wetlands preservation. As for his music career, Benoit appeared at the Blues Box, which is a music club and cultural center in Baton Rouge, run by guitarist Tabby Thomas. Benoit played the guitar alongside Thomas, Henry Gray, Raful Neal, and other high-profile regulars. He learned the blues first-hand from a polished faculty of living blues legends.
In 1987, Benoit found a trio and started playing clubs in Baton Rouge New Orleans. He also began to tour some other parts of the South two years later. In 1991, he began touring more of the United States, and to date, Benoit continues to perform across the country. He was also featured in the IMAX film named Hurricane on the Bayou.
After landing a recording contract with Texas-based Justice Records, Benoit released a series of recordings. It started with Nice and Warm in 1992 and followed by What I Live For, Standing on the Bank, Swampland Jam, These Blues are All Mine, Sea Saint Sessions, Box of Pictures – Voice of the Wetlands Allstars, and many more. Benoit won three separate Blues Music Awards in 2012 and one in 2013. He was even inducted into The Louisiana Music Hall of Fame on May 16, 2010.
