Suuns Information
Suuns is a Canadian rock band. The group's current lineup consists of Joseph Yarmush, Liam O'Neill, and Ben Shemie. It was in 2009 that Suuns first visited Breakglass Studios to create their debut album, Zeroes QC, with Besnard Lakes' Jace Lasek serving as co-producer and engineer. It was released in 2010, and a critic for The New York Times praised it for its "rigorous strategy behind every exquisite attack." The album debuted in the top fifty on the Earshot National Chart. The band Suuns toured the East Coast with Parlovr over the summer and then again in the fall with Land of Talk and The Besnard Lakes, gaining even more new fans.
In 2011, Suuns performed at a staggering number of festivals around the United States, Europe, and Canada. These appearances included CMJ in New York, SXSW in Texas, Primavera Sound in Spain, and many more. They also did a North American tour as the headliners alongside PS I Love You and a Canadian tour as the headliners themselves. During a little break in his schedule to visit his hometown of Montreal, Suuns used the opportunity to write and record two new, out-of-the-ordinary tracks. Unlike the shorter pieces that Suuns had previously released, "Red Song" and "Bambi" were much longer.
Hold/Still was initially recorded in May 2015 in Dallas, Texas, with producer John Congleton. Congleton insisted that the band record perfect, overdub-free live takes of every song during the three-week recording session. Tracks like "Translate" and "Infinity" have been in the works for years but never made it onto prior albums. On April 15, 2016, Secretly Canadian released it to the public.
