Sugarhill Gang Information
The Sugarhill Gang is an American hip-hop trio. The current lineup of the group consists of Master Gee and Wonder Mike. Their song "Rapper's Delight," released in 1979, was the first rap track to crack the Billboard Hot 100's top 40. European singles including "Apache," "8th Wonder" (played on the show Soul Train in 1981), "Rapper's Reprise (Jam Jam)," and "Showdown" led to the group's dissolution in the United States (with the Furious Five). During the following five years, the trio gradually broke up in 1985.
Wonder Mike, Hen Dogg, and Master Gee, the last surviving members of the original Sugarhill Gang, went on their first world tour as The Sugarhill Gang in 2016. During this time, they made appearances at the 2016 V Festival in Hylands Park and Weston Park in the UK and the 2016 Art of Rap festival tour.
The Sugarhill Gang marked the 40th anniversary of the release of "Rapper's Delight" and the group's inception in 2019. They celebrated 40 years as a group by touring the world in what they dubbed the Rapper's Delight World Tour. Early in 2019, the band recorded some brand new material. This tour ran from May 24th, 2019, until July 26th, 2019.
