Stoney LaRue (1977) is an American Texas country artist. He was born in Taft, Texas, and raised in Yanush/Buffalo Valley, Oklahoma. It was the valley where he began playing country music at a young age. LaRue moved to Stillwater, Oklahoma, and started playing in the bars around the college town. He befriended Cody Canada and Jason Boland, and they moved together into the “Yellow House.” The young boys used to have late-night jam sessions, entertaining various musicians around town, such as Brandon Jenkins and Mike McClure. LaRue was influenced by the “Red Dirt” music scene, Mike Hosty, Bob Childers, and Woody Guthrie.
LaRue led The Organic Boogie Band in 2002. He released a notable album entitled Downtown, recorded in private sessions at Cain’s Ballroom in Tulsa. He released another album in 2005 entitled “The Red Dirt Album.” This time, his release reached the Billboard charts in its first week. He released his debut live record in 2006 entitled Live at Billy Bob’s Texas. Some of the other notable albums released by LaRue include Live Acoustic (EP) (December 29, 2009), Velvet (August 30, 2011), Aviator (October 28, 2014), Us Time (October 16, 2015), and Onward (November 1, 2019).
